Introduction:

In today’s fast-paced world, the safety of our vehicles and the security of our loved ones have never been more crucial. With advancements in technology, features like Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) and Emergency Alert Systems (EAS) are becoming standard in new vehicles. These innovations not only enhance convenience but also provide peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.

Delhi transport department Order No. F.DTO-VIU-2022-322-075779197-51905 dated 18.09.2024, has inked an MoU with the National Informatics Centre and National Informatics Centre Services Inc to upgrade the vehicle tracking devices installed on the public transport vehicles plying in the city, the transport department has said.

The initiative aims to implement a new backend system and monitoring centre for vehicle location tracking (VLT) and emergency alert system (EAS) for such vehicles, adhering to AIS-140 standards.

The new system promises improved real-time tracking and enhanced safety for commuters, it said.

Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT): Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) uses GPS technology to monitor a vehicle’s real-time location.

Emergency Alert Systems (EAS): Emergency Alert Systems (EAS) are designed to enhance vehicle safety during critical situations.

The Synergy of VLT and EAS:

When combined, VLT and EAS create a powerful safety net for drivers. Imagine a scenario where a vehicle is involved in an accident; the sensors trigger the EAS, alerting emergency services while VLT provides real-time location data. This integration significantly improves response times and helps ensure that drivers receive the assistance they need promptly.

Key Points:

  • The system upgrade, funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the Nirbhaya Framework, mandates all public vehicle owners to transition from the current DIMTS-managed system to the new backend, which will be managed by the NIC.
  • As part of the transition, the vehicle owners and bus operators must collaborate with Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) vendors to ensure the smooth functioning of the new system, the order said.
  • An OTP will be sent on mobile of the Vehicle owners for the verification and activation process to complete the onboarding of vehicles to the VLT and EAS backend. Without the same, the onboarding of the vehicle cannot be finalized.
  • This whole process of backend system for monitoring of vehicle is without any charge from the vehicle owner and vehicle owner must cooperate to get their vehicle onboarded on the backend system for monitoring of vehicle.

Conclusion:

As we navigate the complexities of modern driving, Vehicle Location Tracking and Emergency Alert Systems are proving to be vital components of vehicle safety. For new car buyers, these features not only enhance safety but also offer convenience and peace of mind. The new system aims to bolster public safety by allowing real-time tracking and emergency response for public service vehicles across Delhi, the statement said.
